Summer-proof Makeup Tips!

As the temperatures begin to rise from Spring going into Summer, I like to tweak my current Beauty routine. I drink more water, use products with higher SPF, and stray away from wearing a heavy, full face of makeup.

Sometimes, special occasions require me to wear a bit more on my face, so I keep the tips below handy in my Beauty arsenal. Whether you're spending the day at the beach or dancing under the sun at an outdoor music festival, these tips will help protect your skin and prevent makeup meltdown!

Always apply your SPF!
If you don't own any makeup with at least SPF 30, always start by using sunscreen.
Sunscreen is important to use every day, since sun damage is the number one cause of skin cancer as well as wrinkles. If you want a youthful, wrinkle-free complexion, don't skip this step!

Prime your face!
Apply a silicone-based primer to keep your face looking dewy & fresh all day long. With dry skin, I don't normally use face primer, as my face products usually last all day. But when I plan on being active and out under the sun all day, I use primer to prevent makeup meltdown. A silicone based primer is best because it'll act as a barrier between the humidity in the air and your skin.

Based on your coverage preference, choose the face makeup that works for you!
If you're like me and prefer light coverage, a tinted moisturizer or BB cream will help keep your skin hydrated and provide extra SPF if it's included in the formula.
If you want medium to full coverage, choose a silicone based liquid foundation. Again, since silicone acts as a barrier, it'll prevent the makeup from sinking into your pores.

***Less is more! Applying more makeup than actually needed is makes it  more likely for the excess product to melt. Use a damp makeup sponge to absorb any excess product. This is also a great method to use every day for an airbrushed looking complexion!

Go with waterproof formulas!
Concealer, eyeliner, mascara, etc. ... The reasoning is pretty self explanatory right? To prevent raccoon eyes, waterproof eye makeup formulas are an obvious choice. There are tons of high end as well as drugstore, waterproof concealers, eyeliners, and mascara available.

If you don't own a waterproof formula, go with cream!
Don't worry if you don't currently own any waterproof concealer! Use a cream concealer that you already own to save yourself some money. I recommend using a stick concealer with a slightly tacky feel to it. The stick form makes it easy to apply, and the tackiness helps ensure it'll stay in place and won't melt in high temperatures.
Same goes for waterproof eyeshadows or blush, cream eyeshadows and blush won't streak or smudge the way other formulas can in heat and humidity.

Go for Tinted Lip Balm or Lip Stain!
If you prefer natural looking lips, tinted lip balm will help your lips stay soft while providing just a touch of color.
If you love a bright or bold lip, lip stains will ensure your color lasts all day. There's lots of high end and drugstore lip stains that'll provide moisture too.

Keep oil absorbing sheets handy!
This doesn't apply if you have dry skin like I do, but if you have combination or oily skin, this is key tip to remember. These will soak up excess oils and remove shine from your face without smudging your makeup! Use them throughout the day on your T-zones(Center of your forehead, nose, sides of your nose, upper lip, and chin.)

***If you don't currently own any oil absorbing sheets or forget yours at home, I find that napkins and toilet seat covers work just as well! ;)
