Running Tag!

With Spring finally here and Summer's "bikini season" fast approaching, my running days have quickly become my favorite days of the week! I love how running allows me to take care of my body while replenishing my mind and soul. It's great that I've found an activity that I enjoy that also continues to improve my overall health. I've been tagged by quite a few of you to do the "Running Tag". My video answering the "Running Tag" questions below went up last Saturday morning, but for those of you who don't have fifteen minutes to spare to watch my video, feel free to read my answers, provided below. 

1. How long have you been running?

I started running track in 5th Grade when I was 11 years old, so if you'd like to count since then, I have been running for 16 years. I actually stopped running after 8th grade, but I stayed active doing Cheerleading & Golf in High School. I was also on a dance team and played club basketball in college. I've always been able to run 1-3 miles easily, but I didn't start proactively running again until Spring of 2012, when I decided to start training for my 1st 5K race, The GIANT Race.

2. Why did you start running?

I initially started running because of my Dad. I went to private school from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Sports became available in 4th grade, and he always encouraged me to try all the sports available (Fall: Volleyball, Winter: Basketball, & Spring: Track). I started running again in 2012 to get into better shape and later train for my 1st 5K.

3. What is the furthest distance you have ever ran? 

My longest race was the Inaugural Livermore Half-Marathon, which is equivalent to 13.1 miles. 

4. What is your best running memory? 

Finishing my very 1st Half-Marathon! Up until then, my longest run had only been about 10.5 miles, so I was really proud of myself. Especially for running uphill for almost all of mile 8!

5. What shoes do you run in?

6. What are your favorite and least favorite distances to run or race?

I love 5Ks, because they're really fun and quick! I don't think I have a least favorite, but if I had to choose, I'd say 10K. It's not as easy to pace, since it's not quite short enough. It's also not long enough for me to be impressed by myself, like I am with running a Half-Marathon. LOL
7. Do you have a running partner? 

Unfortunately, no, I do not. If anyone, I do run with my sister from time to time, but since we have different paces, I tend to run ahead of her.
8. What is your favorite place to run?

I run Sawyer Camp Trail at least once a week! It's a 6 mile trail and along the Crystal Springs Reservoir. It has markers every half mile. It's super convenient to see your distance, while also enjoying the view along the water.

9. What is your favorite running accessory?

I haven't purchased any fun running gadgets yet, so I'd have to say my Belkin Ease Fit Armband and Skullcandy Chops Bud headphones

10. Do you like outdoor or indoor running?

Outdoor! I prefer changing my route and seeing different scenery. I try to avoid treadmills most of the time! I get bored a lot quicker, because I pay too much attention to the numbers on my screen, distance, calories, etc. Plus, I'm always afraid of falling! >_< LOL

11. What is your favorite time of the day to run?

I prefer to run in the very early morning or very late afternoon. Midday runs can get very warm and just too uncomfortable to run in.

13. What music do you listen to when running?

Anything fast & upbeat & happy! Being a dancer, I find that I try to match my pace with the tempo. Slower music tends to slow down my pace. 

14. What is the hottest or coldest weather you have ever ran in?

Coldest weather would be around 27. Hottest weather would be around High 70s. If I tried to run in anything hotter, I'm pretty sure I'd die!

15. What are some other exercises you love?

Yoga, Pilates,  and any high intensity interval training, like Cardio Kickboxing. 

16. Are you currently training for something?

Nothing right now, but I'll start training soon for the GIANT Race Half-Marathon on Sept 7th. 

17. What are your current or future goals?

My current goal is to get a better PR for my next Half-Marathon in September. My future goal is to go to Greece to run my 1st Marathon! (I want to do the original Marathon like Pheidippides from Athens to Marathon.) One day, I hope to be an International Marathon runner in general, running marathons in Barcelona, Paris, and more! :) 

18. Advice for new runners

Commit to a race to help get you started! 

19. Why did you start making running videos/blogs? 

I want to share my Wellness journey with my readers/subscribers, and I hope to inspire others who were once in my shoes.
